Paris International Model United Nations (PIMUN) 2016

The PIMUN is one of Europe’s biggest Model United Nations conferences with up to 1000 participating delegates every year. Located in the capital of France and organised by the prestigious Université de la Sorbonne, it has a very special attraction to students from all over the world.

The PIMUN 2016 began on 24th of May in the OECD headquarters with opening speeches of the PIMUN Secretary Generals and two guest speakers who are working for the OECD and the French government. Afterwards everyone had the opportunity to eat some little french „amuse-gueules“ and to talk to a couple of international students about politics, cultures, opinions and everything else.

The next three days were filled with the committee sessions where 18 committees were discussing about current global foreign policy topics. The aim of these lively and heated debates was to adopt a resolution which is the result of hours of discussions and compromises inside the committees.

At the last day, the delegates assembled in the Palais d’Iéna, the seat of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council of France. The whole plenum was discussing about the complete adhesion of Palestine to the UN which was a heartbreaking debate due to the presence of some Israeli delegates.

Of course the city of Paris never got a raw deal. A lot of socials completed the conference and let the delegates get to know each other better during a committee dinner, a club night, a pub crawl and a treasure hunt through Paris.

In conclusion, the PIMUN is an amazing event where students get to know other students, other nationalities and other cultures better than anywhere else, in some wonderful venues, located in beautiful Paris, the city of lights!
