„More than ever before in human history, we share a common destiny. We can master it only if we face it together. And that, my friends, is why we have the United Nation.“ – Kofi Annan
Model United Nations (MUNs) are educational simulations in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches research, public speaking, debating and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Participants in Model UN conferences are placed in committees and assigned countries, where they represent members of that body. They are presented with their assignments in advance, along with topics that their committee will discuss.
Each year the United Nations Association Konstanz e.V. (UNA Konstanz) prepares around 45 students in weekly meetings for the participation in one of three of the world`s most renowned MUN conferences: Harvard World MUN (this year in Rome), Paris International MUN (PIMUN) and the Princeton Interactive Crisis Simulation (PICSIM). During this course we practice the art of debating in English language, discuss current international political developments and learn about the complex system of MUN rules.
We also arrange various lectures, panel discussions and different formats in which we deal with the United Nations and current international political topics. For those events we invite renowned political scientists and other experts on the fields of international politics and supranational institutions.
The members of UNA Konstanz do not only seize the opportunity to take part in MUNs all around the world, face international topics with young students from various other countries from a foreign perspective, but also enable participating students to test the knowledge they obtained during their studies in a practical context during diverse projects and formats of our association.
